Why use WOOL?
Wool has long been recognized as a valuable natural and renewable
resource. The residents of the tiny Dutch Island of Texel
are especially aware of wool's benefits because their unique sheep
have adapted to the harsh North Sea environment to produce a wool of
unrivalled quality. All TEXELER products incorporate only 100% virgin wool
from Texel sheep. No other product, natural or man-made, comes close
to providing the qualities necessary for a good night's sleep.
Wool regulates and insulates
The natural curliness of Texel wool effectively traps air between the
fibers, allowing the skin to breathe naturally and regulating body
temperature. This thermal insulation makes wool cozily warm in the
winter and pleasantly cool in the summer.
Wool is absorbent
Wool can absorb up to 35% of its own weight in moisture without feeling
clammy. Unlike down or synthetic fillings, it also releases moisture
effectively which provides a dry, fresh sleeping environment. This ensures greater
sleeping comfort and is important in preventing
and relieving muscle and joint complaints.
Wool is durable
Wool is flexible and elastic which gives it great durability.
It will not shift, bunch up, or leak. Wool will retain its
natural loft and will never need to be "fluffed up." Properly cared
for, this unrivalled natural product will remain in good condition for ten
years or more. Wool is naturally flame and static resistant.
Wool is eco-friendly
Unlike feather and down products, wool is harvested from a sustainable
source without detriment or harm to the animal. Texeler uses only
wool from organically raised Texel sheep, and no dyes or bleaches are used
during processing of the wool.
Wool is hypo-allergenic
For the ever-increasing number of allergy sufferers, wool provides a
quality alternative because, unlike down and feathers, it does not break
down into tiny dust particles and will not support the growth of mould,
mildew, and dust mites.
Wool is therapeutic
Texeler wool is the only wool to have an especially high lanolin content,
one percent of which is left within the wool in purified form. This
natural wool oil has beneficial qualities that have been recognized for
centuries in the treatment of muscle and joint pain, sprains, bruises,
injuries, and sleep problems. Sufferers of fibromyalgia, arthritis,
rheumatism, osteoporosis, degenerative diseases, and herniated disks can
look to wool for help.
Wool has been clinically proven to improve sleep because its naturally
crimped fibers form a springy, cushioned support that cradles your body to
relieve pressure points. Nothing soothes the body and reduces fatigue
like wool. You sleep better on wool because you quickly fall into a deep,
restful sleep. Feel rested and recharged for the day ahead!
Texel is the western most of a long chain of islands in the North Sea
off the coast of Holland. The people of Texel have been raising
sheep for over 600 years, and have developed a unique breed of
sheep. Texel sheep are now a highly sought-after breed all across
Europe, the United Kingdom, North America, South America, and even
Australia and New Zealand not only because they are a large and hardy
animal, but also because they produce a wool of unrivalled
quality.
While all wool is vastly superior in providing the properties needed
for a good night's rest when compared to down and synthetics, Texeler uses
only wool from Texel sheep. Why? Texel sheep have adapted to a
very windy and harsh environment to produce a unique, long wool fiber with
a high crinkle factor and a high natural lanolin content. Texel wool
is capable of absorbing an incredible 35% of its own weight in water, and
then transferring this water to the atmosphere. In addition,
Texel wool is highly elastic, flexible, and durable.
Other breeds of sheep may produce wool suitable for fine dress clothing
and merino sweaters, but wool from Texel sheep is especially well suited
to sleep products because of its superior durability, insulation, and
moisture regulation. Products made from Texel wool are softer,
thicker, warmer, and longer lasting.
In fact, we are so proud of our unique breed of sheep, that we have
named our company and all of our quality products after them!
In order to preserve the many natural benefits of Texel sheep wool, Texeler has developed a unique cleaning process which produces an exceptionally
clean wool, while retaining a high natural lanolin content without using any bleaches or chemicals. Clean wool, natural lanolin, and
environmentally sensible - three criteria sought by the demanding European
consumer.
